My name is Kevin Jackson and I make clouds during the day and hope they disappear by night time! By day I’m a Principal Architect for Rackspace, working with cloud technology such as OpenStack and AWS. By night I’m an amateur astrophotographer with a passion to help people get great results night after night. I live in the suburbs of Southport, UK. I have tall buildings, trees and security lights to contend with – but that doesn’t stop me being amazed by what can be captured from my back garden.
There are lots of great guides on the Internet – a favourite and very popular series is by AstroBackyard. What I hope to bring to the table is a refreshing way to explain how to do things written like a recipe. This is inspired by the format of the multiple OpenStack Cloud Computing Cookbooks I’ve authored and co-authored.
I also want to share my experiences here and go into the detail and consistency that I found was lacking when I was first starting out. Simple assumptions that some tutorials make can derail someone part-way through.
My journey with Astrophotography can be seen in my Flickr album.
